But your Great River orthodontist has a few other tricks up their sleeve, which is why they may use a variety of specialty appliances along your treatment journey. Traditional braces

You know what these look like. They’re metal or ceramic brackets that bond securely to your teeth, connected with a nickel-titanium wire (for strength!). The wires are held in place with ligatures or elastic bands, and – here’s the cool part – you can choose the color.

Palatal expander

A palatal expander creates additional room in your mouth so your teeth can line up straight, like nature intended. It applies gentle pressure to your molars to expand your palate. Hence the name.

Herbst® appliance

Got an overbite? Not for long. The Herbst® appliance coaxes your jaw forward and the upper molars backward – at the same time. This stimulates your lower jaw to get moving and grow at a more rapid pace. The result is a stable bite, a more balanced facial profile, and a happier you.

Interarch bands

That’s a fancy name for specialized rubber bands that do really amazing things. Interarch bands correct misaligned bites and get your jaw in proper alignment. These will be on both sides of your mouth, configured specifically for you (because you’re worth it).

Ceramic braces

Similar to traditional braces, ceramic braces are bonded to your teeth in the same way. The difference between traditional metal and ceramic braces is the bracket material which are clear and ceramic – making the braces virtually invisible!

Timing is everything. So if you’re all in, we’ll schedule your first appointment during your initial consultation. Getting started only takes about an hour. During that time, your expert Great River orthodontist will place your braces and any other necessary appliances. They’ll carefully go over diet, hygiene (so important!), and any special care instructions that apply. We’ll ask you to come back to visit us every eight to ten weeks to continue perfecting that beautiful new smile.
